Petrifying

The fiend's eye condemns that which it gazes upon.

It's Halloween tomorrow! Everybody prepared?

Keeping in the ghouls and monsters theme, here's a creature that takes after the 'Cockatrice' -a mythical beast that is something of a cross between a dragon and a rooster.

Bear in mind

A little drawing from my sketch book.  I usually just like using brush pen.

Halloween Approaches

Halloween is slowly getting closer so to get in the spirit I wanted to draw something a Halloween focused. For me Halloween isn't so much about actual horror, but is more about dressing up and having fun. Think more Scooby-Doo than the Blair Witch. So this is just the sketch / general idea I have been working on and will get onto this over the course of the day.

Magician of Hades

Hades being my old flatmate, Hayden. I was inspired to draw one of his wee magician guys. They're pretty cute! He said I could draw a kind that I wanted (sort of) so I just listened to a relaxing song (Go to the Future by Sakanaction... can't actually find it on YT though) and painted and had fun with it. Nothing like drawing just for enjoyment, or for a friend, or both!

Man, this took ages. Totally made it on gimp. I miss you, photoshop...

Also, Halloween approaches... you scared?

Work time sketchs

These are some my random sketches I've done over the past 2 weeks. I'm lucky enough to have a bit of time to draw in between jobs or just when I'm feeling lazy at work and these are all from then.  I've been thinking about medieval stuff a lot lately as well so I'm planning to do some more study based on that stuff. Mainly want to look at armor both heavy and light again sometime next week, which should be fun.

Blademaster II

Blademaster
A blade is only as sharp as the one wielding it.

The Blademaster character from earlier, with some colours quickly applied. Just a quick piece of work overall, to get me back into the rhythm of things. Agh, that flu last week was not great fun -I do not recommend catching it.

...Truth be told, this character is based on a custom character I've been using in Soul Calibur: Broken Destinies lately ;D

Down South

So I'm sorry, humans, but no post today... Away on holiday in Invercargill. Might try upload something later in the week!

Edit.
Have a doodle. Life lesson - be careful not to wake the dragons in others.

Also, no Easter egg link because, well, not easy on just a phone. Next time!

Willex

Neonturtles sketch commission, John's brother as Alexander the Great.  I didn't stretch paper.  I looked at quite a few references, predominantly naked marble statues of Alexander the great so that contributed to the
fact I forgot to put a saddle on the bloody horse. Apologies.

Background Studies

Just been doing some more studies again this week. This time though I decided to do some background paintings. I used geo guesser for these, which is a really cool website. It randomly takes you to a place in the world using Google maps and you then draw the location you are given.

Ink & Colour Choices

Black and White Ink
Zombie Colour Palette

Blue
Indexed Colour to match the Original Nintendo Gameboy Palette

Choosing a colour palette to match the scene/story takes takes me a long time,
that's why I think colourist Dave Stewart is a genius.

Blademaster

Blademaster line art
*Cough* Agh, sorry for the late post everyone --I was out of commission due to a nasty flu this week (Maybe I've been overdoing it this past month!). Here is a quick line drawing however, one which I might take a little further.
Take it easy, everybody!

Beep!

A digital painting of one of my young zebra finches. Baby zebra finches are so precious, with their black wee beaks and beady little black eyes. Aghh I love these wee guys. I have so many of them right now too.

Right, time to stare at the wall and plan my next piece (hahaha yeah right... no time for wall staring! Alway stuff to do!)

C out!

The dog days are done. The horses are coming so you better run (Florence and The Machines)

Still ironing things out.....Come to think of it.  I feel like I've done a similar pose before.....
Sigh....I have.

B&W Studies

Unfortunately I cannot claim these illustrations as my own as they are referenced from other artists work. After getting back from overload I've decided to put the focus back on studying, to improve my skills. For fun I looked at some paintings from some of my favorite artists including Bluefley and did some B&W value paintings of them. Starting next week though I'll go back and start studying from life doing some more value studies of actual people.

Sketchbook, On Location - Redux

Notebook sketching,     trying not to be conspicuous.
If everybody posts travel sketches,   may become ridiculous.
At all costs,    avoid being ubiquitous.

Recent Sketchbook Compilation

I, like some of the other Turtles, have begun carrying with me a pocket-sized sketchbook (A6) for quick drawings on the fly. A great little habit for any artist :)

Recent sketches
Me, the Turtles and some of the Drawfest Christchurch crew attended the Overload 2013 artist exhibition last weekend. It was all an incredible experience, and it was great to visit another city for the first time in years. Some of the drawings above were done on the flight to/from Auckland city.

Misc. 2013 sketches
And here are some other sketches from out-and-about.
